That's relative to if you judge each deal by best of history vs. current best of web

It's more than $40 less than the next best price, which is on Amazon. It's also a well reviewed and popular product.

By your logic, retail full price is a slick deal on days there is no sale.

I'm one 100% with you. But I think immediate need plays a part. It might not be a slick deal for most people who aren't really shopping. Sometimes however a mediocre deal at the right time makes sense.

?Need?

how likely is someone to need a 5 pc set of cast iron cook where?

If their house just burned down the iron would cool before they would get the new stuff in the mail.. maybe if this non-deal was at a store near by they could cook on the fire coals... otherwise this is one of those deals that looks like it is just to bring the click through cash into SD and not really a deal.

Like sometimes a deal goes front page when it is not really a deal but SD is getting a large click-through percentage from the sale and the item is a buy-able item at that price.

In this case, this seems like more of an average everyday deal and not really a slick deal at all.

to relate this to something I am formuliur worth over the past year... a $400 R/T ticket from US to Europe is a SD, $1200 is not. just because the price is $900 today does not make it a post worthy deal today...
While I do agree with you, you need to relax a little man. Don't take everything to heart lol. My comment about need wasn't limited to a set of cast iron cookware but it still applies. It may not be a slick deal. But someone who has been wanting one and doesn't want to wait anymore might jump on it. None the less, it (any given item) might be still cheaper than the next best price.

Yes some posts are not a deal yet they make it to the front page. I know first hand click-through and kickbacks is not the only reason. Some vendors will actually pay established slickdeals uses to upvote and/or make a positive comment. That ticks me off more than the kick back...

Perhaps someone moving into their first apartment and looking for their first cookware set.
Even though this isn't the lowest price in history, these posts are still helpful for some people.

Lodge quality has declined drastically.

The last piece I got from them was chipping right out of the package. Several patches of exposed iron that will start rusting the first time it gets wet.

My last piece was perfect.

Regardless, you should put 2-3 more coats of seasoning on your cast iron when you get it. Really helps with the non-stick properties.

And if it does flake off, just season it again. No big deal.

I use this [unclejonssoap.com]. Crisco and Beeswax together seem to work better. But if you have Crisco or Flax seed oil laying around, use what you already have.
