received below email today... not sure if everyone received it

Purchase an Amazon.com Gift Card claim code at a participating Western Union®agent location in the US between December 6-17, 2017, and we'll email you a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card code.

Stop by any one of more than 44,000 participating Western Union® agent locations in the US and pay cash to purchase an Amazon.com Gift Card claim code¹ in any amount between $25 and $2,000.

You'll see the claim code printed on your receipt, activated for immediate use so you can shop on Amazon.com or other affiliated websites right away. You'll need to give us your email address when you make your purchase, and your $5 Amazon.com Gift Card will arrive via email 2-4 weeks after the promotional period ends on December 17. One card per person.

Well for $25 I would have spent anyway, I guess it's worth a shot. I'll let you know if it works. The chances of them making a typo on the email address is what worries me.

This is not as convenient as the Amazon cash promotion. That promo has more locations and it's an instant $5 and no codes to do anything with or wait for. I don't even know where a western union location is in my area.

Purchase an Amazon.com Gift Card at any Western Union® agent location in the US between December 6-17, 2017, and receive a $5 Amazon.com Gift Card code via email.

Thanks for sharing.

Notes:
  • The $5 Amazon.com Gift Card will arrive via email 2-4 weeks after the promotional period ends on December 17, so you may not receive it until early 2018. Amazon does have a tendency of stating dates a bit far into the future than they actually are, for what it's worth.
  • Western Union usually has a fee, but Amazon does state that sending an Amazon gift code is "fee-free."
  • Click here for a direct link to a Western Union store locator [westernunion.com].

brilliant idea. instead of sending cash, customers can opt to send the money via an amazon gc instead and therefore avoid the fees. i'll give it a try for the $5 but it isn't something i would ever use regularly.

In case anyone is wondering, Western Union charges a $5 fee to send money to somebody. So basically they are refunding their fee for this promotion.

It would be more helpful to everybody if you included a link to the previous post so that everybody doesn't have to go searching for it.
