What do you do with the mouse afterward?

Just a heads up, in many places you can't legally "release"/relocate a pest [mass.gov]such as a mouse, chipmunk, etc. It's obvious why, but presents a problem where the landowner has more incentive to kill the animal than release it somewhere.

I do it anyway - trap chipmunks in a Havaheart, and release 30+ miles away. I guess the state would prefer I chop their heads off or something.

Sometimes chopping their head off is more humane. Most animals are territorial and if you put a chipmunk on anothers territory he can slowly starve due to the resources being guarded/fought over.

Most humane thing if protecting a garden is electric fence IMO.
