How does this work? If I use up the minutes/MB, do I just get another card?

Yes, after one year you can either refill with another of these deals, or you can refill via http://myeasyrefill.com. You can also add texts, data, or talk time mid-month if you run out for a given month via the same link ($2 for 100 min or 100 texts or 100 MB, or $5 for 250 min or 500 texts or 250 MB).

Note: the previous deals was $52 for a while before they increased the price to $55. But since $55 is still good deal so it stay at Front Page even the price increased.

I'm on this plan with Verizon. Service is excellent. Customer Service is off-the-chain horrid. I have had to contact them SEVERAL times in the last 2 weeks or so, with each chat session lasting 1-2 hours. Emails ignored for over a week. After my last 2 hour long chat session I was assured my account was fixed and just today my annual plan didn't auto-renew.

To recap: Service is Great. CS is Trash.

On a slightly unrelated note - I find in interesting that the most horrendous experience with CS I've ever had was with telco, particularly mobile carriers. 8 hours in total to resolve an order issue with TMo a few years ago and then 3 hours to set up data on my tablet (was absolutely not my fault, sim card just didn't want to activate). Several hours with Ting and still ended with a credit card chargeback. Crazy issues with Mint just a few days ago. I'm sure I forgot something (like Comcast / Verizon Residential crap and such...). I know many people can share similar stories...

...so it inevitably brings me to the question - is it an intentional move on the side of telcos to complicate all procedures as much as possible and write the most useless scripts for their reps lol? LMAO

Can't afford customer care w the prices they're offering. Margins are very thin. Suffer the consequences for the price you're paying.

I've had this plan on Verizon network for 3 months and love it. I've never contacted their CS, but it can't be as bad as Lycamobile.

If this is true, I can't even....

RedPocket is easily my #2 all-time worst to deal with companies, with dumb ass Jet.com winning #1 by a landslide. When the service works, it's excellent. If it doesn't, good Fing luck.

How does this compare to the FreedomPop offer [freedompop.com] of $.01 for premium for 30 days, then you downgrade to get it for free? How is the service for each one?

Their Basic plan is:
200 min
500 txt
200mb data

#1 Freedom voice calls are VOIP, meaning they use data for voice transmission.

but from what i read, they use special system to determine if it's Call or something else using data, and doesn't charge you incorrectly if you call someone vs accessing a website?

no it's all voip on the free plan you downgrade to. But there is a $10 upfront fee you have to pay to downgrade to the free plan

if we have a extra iphone 5s that we're just using for wifi calling and web now, can we get this service and use for minutes and text and talk when we're not on wifi?

It says you can keep your existing number, in this case I don't have a current number.....
