That's plenty for most people. Most stock stereos are putting out maybe 20 watts a channel.

That is the RMS power and not peak. Wattage doesnt necessarily dictate sound quality. There are alot of cheap brands that claim to handle 150 watts and they are garbage.

I work at a JL Audio dealer. These are more of an oem replacement speaker. And they have been replaced by c1's. Since they are discontinued the price has dropped. The component set is worth $99, much worse stuff out there for more.

Is this a "slickdeal" or just a decent deal? Sounds like it's entry-level stuff from a big name, so not a steal.

How do these compare with the c2-650x? Looking to upgrade the shitty door speakers in my 2015 mazda 6 (no bose).

i would recommend a coaxial instead of components for a factory deck. look for something with good sensitivity 90+ or you will probably lose a bit of sound

If your car has factory separates (built-in crossover somewhere), if you were to drop these JL's in as replacements, would you need to replace the factory crossover w/ the JL one, or just drop the bare speakers in and use the existing crossover?

Never quite understood how best to do that, and that's what prevents me from replacing factory separates.

Factory separates are already crossed over right? So replacing a separates woofer with a coaxial would restrict the freq bandwidth and only pass through mids/lows right?

Not sure that this is an option, if you have factory separates. You'd have to splice them in pre-crossover, so you're feeding a full bandwidth signal.

using after market components with a factory deck/amp will probably not work out well. the crossover is in the amp and not matched for the set you are replacing. this could result in some unusual/bad sound. just run the coaxials where the midranges were. they were full range most likely anyway even though they don't have a tweeter.

Couldn't be more wrong. 50w rms in a 6.5" speaker Is plenty. Your car would be insanely loud at 50w. Jl is also notorious for conservative ratings on their stuff so don't be fooled. A jl amp that puts out 200w rms will blow the socks off of a 2,000w power acoustic amp.

I'd say this is a decent deal if you can get them for quite a bit less, you're not very mechanically inclined, and your car is over 15 years old or your current speakers are buzzing. It was mentioned that they give you harnesses (and brackets too?) for installation, which is nice if you just want to plug and play.

It's a very sensitive speaker, but the woofer is unfiltered and the tweeter has a simple cap crossover, which doesn't make this a component in any term other than you being able to mount the tweeter anywhere you want, which you may or may not want to do. At this price range, you can easily get decent components with a well thought out crossover. I have, with the Sony gs, pioneer ts-d, Polk dxi or dB.

Don't mind the rms rating, as I have run about 300 rms through my Polk dxi without a hitch (other than my amp not liking the very low impedance while bridged and maxing volume during bass heavy content).
