Audible has the unabridged version of Mario Puzo's "The Godfather" (Book 1) on sale for $5.95 as the daily deal for 12/9/17. This all-time classic is over 18 hours long and is rated 4.8 stars on Audible. I bought this for 1 credit last year -- I would've paid full price for it. For $5.95, this is an absolute steal.

Publisher's Summary

More than 40 years ago, Mario Puzo wrote his iconic portrait of the Mafia underworld, as told through the fictional first family of American crime, the Corleones. The leader, Vito Corleone, is the Godfather. He is a benevolent despot who stops at nothing to gain and hold power. His command post is a fortress on Long Island from which he presides over a vast underground empire that includes the rackets, gambling, bookmaking, and unions. His influence runs through all levels of American society, from the cop on the beat to the nation's mighty.

Mario Puzo, a master storyteller, introduces us to unforgettable characters, and the elements of this world explode to life in this violent and impassioned chronicle.

Incredibly well produced audiobook with various different voice actors playing the characters. And it's just a great book anyway.

Highly recommend it.

To clarify, this is not the multi-cast narration version. It's the Joe Mantegna narrated version. It's about 2 hours longer and is rated a bit higher.

Good correction! Sorry everyone for the misinformation.

I'd personally recommend the multi-cast version to anyone who's interested: makes an audiobook so much better if done even semi-competently.

I personally prefer single narrator audio books as multi-cast ones can be distracting (I prefer consistency) and can be hit and miss (some members of the cast are good while others are terrible), but the multi-cast version of this book seems to be well reviewed as well. I just prefer to think of (fictional) audiobooks as a storyteller telling me a story instead of me listening to a radio dramatization of a story.

I cannot agree. Joe Mantegna's narration is absolutely stellar. Granted his voice and style lend themselves to the text particularly well, but that is the nature of good casting. Outstanding performance.

Joe Mantegna did a fantastic job. He was the perfect narrator for this book.
