Some people say there is no difference in the tracking ability of the Rift with 3 sensors vs. the Vive with two when used for walking around (room-scale), and some say the RIft is not quite as good. I've never heard anyone say the Rift is better than the Vive at tracking though.

Previously I would have said the Rift is a good choice on price alone but with this deal I'd have to say the Vive is the better deal.

This comes with the deluxe head-strap that is normally $99 and gives the Vive parity with the rift in external features (comfort, ease of use, built in audio) plus a $100 gift card that makes your total out of the door price effectively $499.

The Rift retails for $399 and to get full room-scale you need to buy a third sensor for $50. On top of that you need enough of the right kind of USB inputs on your computer to run it. Each of the the Rift trackers needs a cable run from the tracker itself back to the computer which, depending on your setup and can be no problem at all, a pain to route wires or might mean buying more hardware to give your computer enough USB ports (as I understand it each tracker needs its own USB 3.0 or better port, no USB hubs, I could be wrong on this).

The Vive trackers only need power, there is no connection needed between them and the computer.

So buying the Rift will save you $50 but in my mind that $50 is easy to justify given the extra hassle and potential cost of hardware.

Additionally, most of the new innovations coming out for VR are being designed around the Vive hardware. For example most of the wireless solutions in the pipeline are either Vive first or Vive only. A company called Pimax is making a "next gen" headset (people are not sure it's going to pan out but they're doing it) that uses the Vive tracking solution, so if you own a Vive you only need to buy the headset, the trackers and controllers from your Vive just transfer across.....

Even better than the BF deals Big Grin With the microcenter price being at $499, makes you wonder if there's a price drop again for Vive, or possible new bundle with headset being the norm.

Comes with Fallout 4 VR pre-order too. Is this the best deal ever for Vive?

I'm not seeing Fallout 4 included

Edit: nevermind, I guess it's for all VIVE orders, not in the bundle

I believe they're coming out with the wireless version pretty soon, so dumping.

The vive focus is an alternative, not an improvement.

VIVE Focus from what I read is a stand alone VR tool... not necessarily the same market, I wouldn't expect it to be able to handle games like Fallout and Skyrim, probably more so a little more powerful than your cell phone VR apps.

Maybe I'm wrong, I didn't look into it that much, but the few articles I read mostly talked about it being a stand-alone VR console with no phone/pc needed.
