This little thing is awesome. I tape my daughters concerts from the middle of the room and receiving very little if any background noise (like people talking etc). Sound is clear and way better than any phone or camera. Also a pretty good price!

I have a Q2HD from Zoom and while the video quality is terrible, the audio is quite good. I'm sure this is a capable recorder for most amateur situations.

It seems this price is as low as it gets, at least for the black one.

I was looking at some refurb/used ones on eBay for $70, but of course I'd rather buy new. Smilie

My daughter is a Professional Videographer, She uses these for weddings and interviews. attach a lapel mic to it and drop it in the officiators pocket. Gets great audio for the vows.

Is this extremely easy to use, even for an older person? I want to buy it for my mom, someone who is not tech savvy and also a non-english speaker to boot. She had a hard time using the previous Tascam recorder I got her because it was so difficult to use.

Hrm I would try to have your mom use one in store. I have a fancier Zoom model (H5) and once you get it setup for the most part it's just press the record button and done. However that setup is quite complicated and requires a bit of knowledge about audio. There are tons of options for filters, codecs, bit-rates, etc. and a labyrinth of menus to navigate through. You also need to be a little aware of audio levels as you record and watching that they don't peak out, etc. I would step back and look at your mom's needs--if it's recording voice notes a simple phone app would be a lot easier. If it's recording longer notes perhaps a little dictaphone (smaller audio record with less focus on pro audio) is better. If the Tascam was too complicated I have a strong feeling this will be too--they're very similar devices and made for the same pro audio audience.

B&H has the black one for the same price. You get a 2GB microSD card as well as Wavelab and Cubase LE's. I don't know what the LE's are for.

It appears that Sony ICDUX560BLK is a better option for this price and half the size.

Been looking for a decent (and easy to use?) digital recorder for my dad. I have seen cheaper ones but the reviews point to good sound quality with this one. I'm so confused on what to get him.... the main thing is I want and hope it will be easy to use. Any suggestions? This one or something else?
