I bought the Galaxy Tab A for my father from Best Buy yesterday for $170. Would this be better for a 65 year old who just checks local news (via local news apps), sports and Youtube?

Thanks I ordered one but need to check it out in store to see if it is a decent tablet. I wasn't impressed with the 8hd so I am cautious about this one.

A quick search shows it was $85 at Target about 2 weeks ago. (Cyber Monday deal?) Any chance it'll go down that low again any time soon?

I think this would be perfectly sufficient especially at $70 less. This has the added benefit of handsfree Alexa support so with a standing case, it'd be like a cheap Echo Show that's portable to boot. It does not have full Android, but does have access to a good number of the same apps. You can see what is available here: https://smile.amazon.com/Fire-Tab...3427287011
The Special Offers screensaver can be removed in less than 3 minutes if one is so inclined, but you didn't hear that from me.

Just keep in mind this is a $100 tablet. You'd be hard pressed to find something equivalent at that price. Amazon is willing to take some losses on these with the idea that you'll be pulled into their ecosystem.

Yeah that was a Cyber Monday 15% off everything deal that happened to coincide with the reduced price of $99 that Amazon and all vendors had going. Highly doubtful that it will return.

Yeah, it was. Care to show me where to get it at $99 now? Amazon won't even have this available for 4-6 months, so I don't see them lowering the price down to $99 causing all the vendors to do the same. You've been around long enough to know better than that. smh

I suppose I'm worried that some of the apps he uses won't run correctly on this since it isn't true Android but it based on Lollipop so maybe some apps won't run correctly? Samsung Tab A is also upgradeable to Nougat.

Yikes, I didn't realize their OS was based on such an old version of Android. The latest version of the Fire TV supports OS 6, which is based on Nougat. I hope Amazon eventually decides to release it on the Fire HD 10.

That's what I read on Q and A. I hope it isn't that old, maybe someone else can chime in?
