Yes, but 720 costs more than 1080?

Is it true that standard definition channels look better on a 720p tv than a 1080p tv? I think I read this is because the upscaling from Standard to 720p is a lot closer/easier for the tv to do?

Regardless of price, the picture is just awful...unless you happen to be red-green color blind...then yeah sure, it's ok...

"Smart" TVs are the worst, IMO. Limited app selection and with a few exceptions, they're never updated. More often than not, an awful user interface. Personally, you're better off buying a "regular" TV and and a Fire TV stick.

That said, I realize that having only one remote is nice. And I realize that buying an extra device (which requires said remote and usually another power plug) costs money. Before anyone suggests otherwise, I'm not saying there aren't any advantages to a smart TV. Rather, I don't think that those advantages are worth the disadvantages.

I bought this TV for the guest room and I'll plug in one of the Fire TV sticks I bought for ~$22 from Target on Cyber Monday. I debated getting the 55" Westinghouse 4K TV for $100 more, but it would likely look ridiculous in the spare room laugh out loud

I was literally having the same debate with myself all day. Go with this or go massively bigger with the Westinghouse 4k. The Westinghouse is definitely a superior TV in every way. I even walked through Best Buy at lunch time.

As far as smart tv features, I don't even use the smart features on my two Sony tvs or apple tv anymore. Comcast X1 has everything. Hopefully, this tv will be fine. Otherwise, I'll dig back into slickdeals for a replacement. Smilie

Smart tvs are available that come with multiple apps and an updated library.

Saying they have none and don't update simply means you're looking at a poor quality tv.

There are creative ways to deal with that.
