BTC miner (Antminer S9) - $5588

This is more novelty than anything else, but while browsing through newegg's sales I came across a listing for an Antminer S9. LMAO

If exchange rate and difficulty were to stay the same, this would be making around $1000/month.

MSRP $1500 but sold out at Bitmain. Yes it mines $1k now but for how long? Look at obsolete Asic miners. They are worthless now.

Correct me if I'm wrong but difficulty CANNOT stay the same, and is constantly increasing, regardless of the exchange rate, which is why these things ALWAYS go obsolete before they are readily available to consumers.

I didn't include electricity costs since everyone has different rates. At $0.12/kWh you're looking at around $100/month

Somewhat true. Difficulty won't stay the same and it trends higher over time, but there have been times when it has dropped. Exchange rate dropping and reward halving are possible reasons you might see difficulty decrease. Interestingly, if difficulty were to update today, it would be a pretty big drop (source: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty)

So if I pay $0.12/kWh, difficulty and exchange rate remains the same, I could recoup my investment in about 4.5 years? Is that right?

I'm guessing people buying this are betting bitcoin appreciates, but wouldn't it be better to get a general purpose miner and mine altcoin?

any recommendations a general purpose miner?

I actually want something that puts out heat and i dont' mind the noise, it'll go into a cold utility closet.

i've got a dell I-5 sitting around here unused, i was thinking about putting a 1070TI? in it.

if it can produce heat, and pay me even 10 bux a month after electricity costs ( 0.09kw) i'd be happy

btw what's the return policy? if something can be returned within 14 days, but pays out $500 bux,
it's worth it to buy and return lol

edit: nm i see it's from a HK seller

I have 3 Antminers and 4 GPU mining rigs with total of (18 Nvidia 1080ti and 6 Nvidia 1080 cards). Built/bought in July. I have completely paid off my initial cost of equipment and added electric bill cost ($0.11/KWh) and now they are mining consistently $$275-$315 a Day . . . .
