Hello,

This is very YMMV based on whether you have Nexus 5x or not / the condition that your 5x is in. So please be kind. Oh and this is for Project fi only (or so I think).

Moto x4 is $324 + tax;
- Nexus 5x trade in could be up to $150;
- $100 promo (it can be either statement credit or credit card refund depending on whether or not you finance it)
= potentially, Moto x4 could be as low as $74 + tax.

I have Nexus 5x, didn't want to spend tons of money for Pixel 2, so I thought this could be a reasonable trade until new cool thing pops up in the market in the future? (My Nexus isn't in the greatest shape, and apps are keep freezing on it so I am about to lose my sanity on it.)

I ordered mine just now, and pad to pay $324 + tax. I do have to ship my 5x back and it has to be verified on Project Fi's end for trade-in credit / promo credit. So, please keep that in mind.

Below is the text of T&C

Nexus 5X Trade-In Offer Terms
Trade-in credit applies to Nexus 5X devices traded in between 12/11/17 at 12:01 AM PT and 1/4/18 at 11:59 PM PT. Upon receiving your new device, you will have 30 days to send in your Nexus 5X device. Purchasers will receive an extra $100 credit on their Nexus 5 trade-in value for up to $150 in the form of a Project Fi service credit on their next billing statements if their 5X was financed or in the form of credit back to their credit card if the 5X was purchased outright. Credit card refund is only available with the purchase of a new phone.

This offer is only available for U.S. residents ages 18 and older with a Project Fi account. There is a limit of 1 trade-in credit per customer. This trade-in offer can be combined with other 2017 holiday device offers. Terms are subject to applicable laws. The offer is void where prohibited.

I hope this helps!

I was looking into this today as well, and it seems like the $150 trade in value already includes the $100 credit. Still a good deal for the 5x, and I submitted my order for an x4. Would be great if we got an extra $100.

Purchasers will receive an extra $100 credit on their Nexus 5 trade-in value for up to $150 = So, your trade in value will be up to $150 depending on the condition. And you will get extra $100 on top of that. Potentially, you could get up to $250 total.

Will you get a credit if you have a dead 5x that suffered from the bootloop? I am interested in purchasing a Pixel 2 but I don't want Fi service. Is the credit good for the purchase without paying for service?

The way I am interpreting this is the x4 normal price is 399. The 76 credit for the x4 makes it 324. It says you will pay 399 if not activated in 30 days during checkout. So the actual price for an x4 with a good condition Nexus 5x trade-in is 174 + tax and shipping. Is the x4 really a huge upgrade over the 5x?

Think you're wrong. It would be $174 not $74 after trade in. The extra 100 brings it up to 150.

Hmmm... Now that you guys mention it, maybe you guys are right. I guess I will figure it out relatively soon.

From 5x to Moto x4 isn't huge upgrade... Or so my knowledgeable friends told me. And here's my personal take on it: Moto does come with SD card slot, price point even at $174-200 I consider it to be reasonable compared to purchasing newest Pixel 2 with some known issues. And my nexus 5 is quite slow / crashing / battery life is ehhhh... So I decided to take chance on it until maybe next hot thing comes along. I guess it's a bit of reasonable status quo for me. Plus, I do know that I get what I paid for and totally okay with it.

But still, brand new phone for $200 isn't really all that bad I think? I am also on project fi so it works out for me - I just thought maybe someone out there might wanna do the same if they are looking to replace cell phone cheap and on project fi. Smilie

I chatted with them twice. Both said it's $100 project fi credit on top of the $150 for the trade in. So pretty good deal if it goes through. Still gotta pay tax on the full price of the phone. They said I'd get the credit after the trade-in goes through.

Considering trading in my Nexus 6 (64GB) which has ghost touch issues, buying Moto X4 and selling it for nearly the price I paid, probably on Craigslist.

Worth the hassle? Mostly to avoid the hassle of selling a barely functioning Nexus 6.

What is the reason behind increasing the value?

It almost seems like a stealth "sale" of sorts. I'd suspect that they were losing people due to the high price of the new(er) phones and the really low prices offered for their trades. My 6p had an offer for something like $40 trade-in value last week and that was almost an insult. The combination of a somewhat more reasonable trade-in value and the $100 credit on the phone helps make the value proposition a good bit better (for the moment at least).
