This is the newer version of the slim+ that is front page with 100 thumbs up for 5 bucks cheaper. What's going on?

I know Amazon lists these as the newer version of the Slim+, but are they actually better? Slim+ is still really new, released in August. The Slim+ also are IPX5 water resistant versus Surge's unknown level. Plus the Slim+ has 7 hours of claimed battery life and apt-x HD whereas the Surge claims 6 hours of battery life and appear to only have regular apt-x.

Reviews seem to indicate shorter battery life compare to Slim+. I get about 6 hours battery life on Slim+ so far and happy with it.

What's the range on these? I have some cheap Skullcandy wireless headphones and I can't go more than 15-20 feet away from my phone before they get static-y.
