Zmodo "Ding" (Ring knockoff, package with 2 window/door sensors and wifi extender) - $49.75 amazon after new promotion

EDIT: New promotion is for $10 off, making it $49.75

I have NO idea if it's a real Ring contender, but for $54, I rolled the dice.

This is the Zmodo Ding with 2 door/window sensors and a wifi extender in a holiday package for $53.77 after 10% promotion. I simply clicked "redeem" in the promotion details and it took 10% off. This was the only item I purchased, there wasn't any other requirement.

Yeah in order to view footage 7/30 days after. Their free membership only saves the alerts footage. If you have their membership it's about $99 a year I believe per camera you get it saved for play back when needed.

Thanks for the feedback and IRL experience, everyone. I've never heard of this video doorbell and treat Amazon reviews with suspicion.

I don't know if it will make a difference for some folks, but this package also happens to include 6 month trial to their 7-day cloud service.

All users are eligible for a 6-month free cloud of our 7 day cloud recording plan. Cloud Service requires no subscription and no credit card credentials. With the plan, you can review, save, and share footage at any time, and reduce false alerts with cloud intelligence.

Is there any way to record to local or ftp, etc?

Yes it is lol. But sadly people keep buying this junk, further supporting the idea.

I went with Skybell which has a free 7 day storage. Works great and no additional monthly/yearly bill to pay.
How much was that from Skybell?

$100 per device per year? Ring offers unlimited devices for $100 per year. Just signed up myself. And their hardware looks better built.

It's only free while they keep the servers running. Wouldn't trust a fly by night Chinese product to continue giving me cloud services for free for years

wouldn't trust them from a security standpoint either

I bought it since I have a Zmodo video surveillance system and am using their free trial cloud with one day of saved footage. So I want to see how it integrates to their app. One thing I don't like about this company is that with their firmware updates they converted my nvr to cloud only access. I bitched to them as I wanted to control my own device and how I access my video feeds and did not want to go through the cloud. They sent me an old firmware to downgrade back. I want to use their web interface to see all my cameras and don't want to use their cloud solution.

I hope we can use the doorbell without their cloud solution or at least allow me to use my Nas as a cloud.

Hi irollsolo

Sounds like zmodo has locked up access... here's what they replied to

..
CONS:

Not really an IP cam other than it uses an IP address which is unreachable.

Dear Customer,
We sincerely apologize that this doorbell doesn't meet your satisfaction.

Due to the fact that everybody can view your cameras if they know the IP addresses of your doorbell.

Thus, for your security and privacy reason, we have disabled the access of these devices via IP address. Instead, you can view the live videos in a secure way by using Zmodo APP, or our web client: http://user.zmodo.com/user/login.

Please also note that zmodo apps and camera devices connect to the Zmodo servers using bank-level AES 256-bit encryption and Transport Layer Security (TLS). All video and pictures are secured with AES 256-bit symmetric-key encryption.

For any defective screws, we will send new ones to you instead. Please feel free to contact us via Amazon Message.

It is totally your choice if you don't want to use cloud after the 6-month free trial. We don't force any customers to subscribe to cloud, all is up to you.

For the motion detection, Zmodo R&D is making improvements right now. Hopefully there is a way to adjust the sensitivity in the future updated APP.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you!
EZoomTek Support"

[ gotta love the excuses they give why you can't have local access to your camera ]

HI Gary,

Looks like zmodo has caught on that the way for them to make bank is via cloud service, so it looks like their entire line up is headed for that direction...

What in the world are you talking about? Skybell is in the USA. All manufacturing and support is done in the USA. That's why I only mentioned them.

You have a point with the Chinese companies, but that doesn't apply to Skybell.

I grabbed this before I grabbed the ring. This is a horrible product. I have ubiquiti AP network at home so coverage isn't an issue. This product refuses to connect consistently. Don't say I didn't warn y'all. I mean, my AP is literally 5 feet away.
