I know this is a petty complaint, but you'd think when you're spending over $500 on a video card a backplate is an auto included feature.

Having this problem shopping for GPU's a lot lately, high tier, expensive GPU's without backplates.

And yes, backplates are mainly for cosmetic purposes only - but I like them quite a bit and the second a card doesn't have one I stop considering it as an option. Miners, probably all the better for them.

I think it actually makes card hotter a bit, if it would have touched all the rear chips and work as a heatsink.... But it makes card look better and also much more durable.

This is a good deal except it forces you to take Destiny 2 as part of the deal. Pass.
well if you don't want Destiny 2, you can always gift it to me! Smilie
if your willing to wait up to 20 days for delivery, you might be able to get one from Massdrop for a bit cheaper in the upcoming days. I snagged one for $660 back in September.
or maybe if viable wait for 3 month, as prices would favorable drop with a new card release announcement.

I feel like if your buying a 1080 ti you might as well spend an extra 50 to get a higher end card. The savings is very small relative to the price.
What would be the higher end card? Is this equivalent to Asus 1080ti ROG Strix?

Hmm how big is this compare to a 1070, 1070 was a very tight fit with an Antec one hundred case

Same as most 1070's. It's just a chipset change the cooling design is the only thing that will impact the size, which is vendor design. The gigabyte models generally are on the smaller side though.

Certainly understand, but I actually prefer no back plate, as every mm of space is critical in my itx case.

The only reason to get this card is for water cooling.
