Newbie to SD - question about FreedomPop global sim shutdown

11 10 December 12, 2017 at 01:11 PM
I am a newbie to slickdeals. Didn't know where to ask this question. Please feel free to move this to appropriate place where it can get answers.

So I have had a FreedomPop (fp) global sim for a year now. i got an email from fp saying that the global sim service will stop on jan 3. that email said i should move to their 4g lte service by ordering a new sim.

1. has anyone else ordered a new 4g lte sim to replace their existing global sim? what was your experience, any fees or charges to be aware of?

2. will the new lte sim be on my existing free plan, or will i have to pay fp's new $10 charge to downgrade to a free plan?

3. i actually don't have a phone number for this global sim because i think fp cancelled the phone number due to low use/non-use. so has anyone gotten a new number on their global sim and did you have to pay for a new number? any other charges while getting anew number?

thanks to all in advance. i love slickdeals!

1. You can order the LTE SIM [freedompop.com] for $0.01. You can disable Top-Up for $5.00 in account credit and then downgrade the plan w/o additional costs. Basically the policy is that you need at least $2.00 on the account to downgrade the plan or Top-Up. So it's cheaper to disable Top-Up first than to downgrade the plan as the former only prompts you to add $5.00 in account credit. Hope that makes sense.

2. You'll have to pay at least $5.00 (Disable Top-Up) + $0.01 for the SIM.

3. There aren't any charges for selecting a new number.
