Would anyone recommend this to a Calvin & Hobbes fan? And any other comic compilation recommendations?
Yes, you need both Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes to achieve maximum happiness.

Are the Sunday ones in color? Most Far Side books just print them in black-and-white inline with the rest so you don't even know which are which.

Bloom County. The greatest of all time, although if you're a young un, you may need to brush up on your 80s history to fully appreciate its genius. A new complete* collection was just released:

* The strip was revived in 2015, with comics released on Facebook. These new strips aren't included in the collection, but two books (with more sure to come) have been released with the new strips:

The hardcover version of this is freakin heavy! You have to look at it like you're in a museum, and the huge pages have a lot of border around the individual comics, so IMO this is a better choice anyway.

I've bought both, and the HC is just a giant paper weight, literally. This one, you'll actually use.
Nothing beats the deluxe leather bound hardcover version in the solander case, though.

What do you do with it? Set it out on a table, open like a guest book? Serious question here.

I have supported Larson for years, bought the same books more than once... bought the same comics many times (from overlapping collections), but when I got the hardcover set it only took a couple minutes to think, "what the hell am I going to do with this?" They are laborious to look through, so after a couple short views, they've gone on the shelf and I'll gift them at the first opportunity.

Honestly, I wish Larson would sell an app. So I could swipe through full-screen comics on the iPad, and it would book-mark where I left off, even if I closed the app. Of course all the people in the world who think everything should be free would make this a terrible business decision as you'd see even more comics posted around the net than you already do, since people would be screen-capturing them and posting 'em.

*sigh* This is why I still buy Larson's stuff, even though I've bought it over and over. Genius deserves payment... but that hardcover... *ugh* it's a lot of work for the laughs.

Why not just an ebook? Doesn't need to be its own piece of dedicated software.

And plenty of comics have their full archives already available in digital form, courtesy of the syndicates' websites. It never occurred to me to check if The Far Side was one of them or not. Either way, it doesn't seem to have led to a plague of piracy.

Google it... Larson wrote a public letter about it.
