if it had 18-135 at this price, that'd be great. 18-135 is 999.

Ordered one on the last better deal, and ended up with a virtually new body. The lens was far from it, and Canon put me through the wringer on getting it swapped out. Was surprised by that experience.

Still, I love the model. Apparently the only main drawbacks are the previous model sensor, no 4k vid, no MagicLatern port yet, and no shuttercount support for apps outside of Mac-based ones...oh, and it's crop, but we know that going in. Smilie

I am having the same experience with Canon on any issues with a refurb. Most have good experiences with these, but in the odd case when there is an issue, Canon support will not be there for you. So really, YMMV on these. Check out: canonrefurbiq.com and others on dpreview have gone months trying to get Canon service to help them. The stuff coming out of Japan is great, less so stateside, though. Glad it worked out for you in the end though.

Wish me luck. Just ordered the refurb 80D with 18-135kit. Came out at $1082 with tax.
Probably not the best deal...but good enough for $1040 after cashback. I just hope there are no issues with the camera or lens.

Good luck! I would do a thorough evaluation in the first week for sure. Hopefully, like the vast majority, it works out great for you! That lens is also an excellent kit lens.

Was an ordeal, to be honest.

I ordered the kit with another 50mm refurb on the side, and the 50mm was reported damaged in shipment by FedEx. I called about that (first ever call to Canon), and was told whatever happens, I would get a replacement, and that the replacement would likely be new stock as the refurb was OOS. That put my mind at ease.

Then came the kit, and the lens issue (worn down flanges, caked dirt around focus ring, etc - it looked a few years old). I called again, and not only was not offered the same replacement guarantee, but told only a direct swap of the entire kit would be an option. I told them I was wary about that at that point, as I feared getting a good lens and a bad body the next time. Then I was told I was "lucky", as they were now OOS on the refurb kit, and they couldn't help me at all.

They said keep calling back, and after call after call I was told to call back again and again, and along the way different "options" were given, from charging me another $70+ for a new version of the same 18-55 - NOT a replacement, offering to cover shipping on a warranty repair submission, and even one rep seeing if she could send me the 18-135mm refurb instead. Of course, I was disconnected on THAT call. Anyhow, I wasn't after that, or even a new 18-55; just one in decent shape as a refurb. However, the whole time they told me not only is there no listing online for an 18-55 refurb, but that it rarely appears as orderable when what few pieces appear to them, as most are paired in refurb kits.

Still, I was told to call back again and again, with "it can come back 5 minutes after we get off the phone with you" said several times. I never did call more than once a day, though.

THEN the Ritz Camera NEW 80D w/ 18-135mm kit fiasco happened. After rebate, it was about the same price as this, and I knew then I was going to return the refurb kit, and everything was solved. Some part of my brain not numbed by all of this hesitated at requesting an RMA, but a rep at Canon I reached out to said to go for it, and that I could return the refurb kit. In fact, I was sent an extra camera strap to "make it right".

Well, looking at that Ritz thread, you can see some idiots ruined it all, and Canon shut down that deal. Canon. Boy, was I looking at Nikon again at that point. Yet, I hoped against hope, and with this added hardship in hand, hoped a rep would finally replicate the original offer of replacement new or refurb. Hell, that still had to be cheaper than the refurb 18-135mm almost on the table. But no, got a rep who wasn't so empathetic, and even hedged on replicating the earlier deal on a new 18-55. Just bad luck I got him, as it was clear he wouldn't have made any of the offers previously made, but I was so tired then, and gave in on the warranty repair.

So, sent it back, and was told I was on the hook for $100+.

Yep, they lost the paperwork, and assumed it wasn't under warranty. Had to start the escalation again, and got that sorted. Then I had to wait.

...and what arrived was a brand spanking new retail boxed 18-135mm lens. Smilie

Now, can I say this was a good deal on paper? Sure as hell yeah, but it was SO time-consuming, and at times I felt like I was dealing with a cop and trying to talk my way through a ticket. No one should have to plead their case, repeatedly, on an item that was received in bad condition. I don't feel that was recognized nor compensated for, and it has left a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to their CS. Not that I'm jumping ship for Nikon island (90 day warranty???), but I don't have confidence in them being there for me.

I saw so many positive experiences prior to mine, and yours is the only other that's similar...until you showed me that link. Wow. Well, I haven't yet experienced those issues, but who knows what may come.

Goodness, yes when things go wrong, Canon are not there for you. It's a shame, as the product out of Japan is great (as are Olympus, Fujifilm, Panasonic, etc, though). No experience with Nikon, but their sensors are supposed to be amazing.
Actually, on DP review there are a few people having the same issues with service, so reputation is getting damaged, and it's of their own doing.
Glad it worked out for you, but yes, time lost and stress seem too much. If Canon came through for me, I'd use, even buy their stuff again, but not enthusiastically. As is, I will never buy Canon product again. And up until this year, things had gone well for me.
