Remember when iRobot was the only robotic vacuum cleaner? Now it seems like everyone and their mother is making one.

Does anyone have any experience with this vacuum and/or retailer? I bought the iLife A4S on black Friday and it keeps getting caught on the area rug. Does this happen to all of them?

I'm not sure as I don't own one. The reviews on the forum on Meh seem good. Consumer Reports did an analysis on this model and this was their report:

"This quiet robot vac excelled at most of our tests from navigation to bare floor and carpet cleaning. In auto cleaning mode it used a random pattern to tackle our test surfaces. We found though, with our bare floors, that the vacuum did better using the straight suction option with the brush removed and an attachment in its place. The user will have to decide what is better for their home. For the carpet test we used the brush and it managed to pick the debris left on the floor up after at least a few passes. It struggled a bit picking up the pet hair. It barely got near the edges and hugged the walls without touching them and wasn't able to navigate the bare floor-to-carpet transition well. It was, however, able to negotiate around the docking station without moving it. Its slim design was able to maneuver and clean under our furniture. The 2 side brushes were helpful in removing debris from our bare floor edges and corners but not quite as successful on our carpeted surfaces. For our rug tassel test, it maneuvered over the fringe, but didn't get caught on it. It at first got caught up on our power cords but backed itself off of them. The dirt bin isn't that big so you may find yourself emptying it often if you have a lot of debris on your floor. The brush roll has both bristles and a rubber flap to help pick up debris. It spent between an hour and an hour and a half on our test floors before it found its way back to its charging station. Its cliff sensors allowed it to avoid our stairs. Features: The app can change the suction power to max. Modes: Auto (random and grid), spot, edge, single room. Scheduling is easier with the app than with the included remote. Battery: Ni-MH (12 V, 3000 mAh, 36 Wh) Extras: Advanced wet/dry cleaning cloths (2), reservoir cleaning solution, measuring cup, replacement filter, 2 extra side brushes and direct suction component, remote, docking station. Warranty 1 year"

meh is a good retailer and ecovacs is a good robot vacuum brand, this is actually a p. slick deal, but the xiaomi 1st gen vac is only about 250 when it goes on sale and it's regarded as the best robovac

Does anyone have experience with the mopping feature? I have tile and a large rug, so if I'm running it with the mopping feature on would it know to avoid the rugs? Or would it roll over the rugs and get it wet anyway?

The 980 is regarded as the best vacuum, look at how the xiaomi stacks up. Pretty amazing for price IMO.

Xiaomi vacuums have a laser distance sensor spinning above the robot that maps out the entirety of the house during each cleaning. It detects walls, boundaries, obstacles 5-10 feet before it ever even reaches them.

I bought mine for $250 from gearbest a month ago. Picks up so much dog hair and dust it's unreal.

Here's my cleaning from a few days ago.

Here's a review - describes many of the advantages. It goes toe to toe with the Rooma 980, even has a similar Nidec japanese motor used for suction.

Roomba 980 is a $900 vacuum. The Xiaomi costs (on average $250-$300)

The "mop" is simply a cloth with Velcro attached below a water reservoir of about 3oz.

It runs out quick, and does a loss poor job of mopping.

Do not put in attachment, if hard floor is connected to carpeting, as it has issued with getting stuck (as well as leaking water through the dirty cloth onto the carpeting while it sits there)

That being said, I loved my m80, so I bought this one for my folks. It's great as a vacuum, and if you can block off carpeting (I have lots of amazon boxes), the little it mops is better than nothing, if you can refill it every 45min.

OH, and you must drain it before it goes to the charger, unless you want a puddle. Water comes out through gravity, no mechanism to stop it. Reservoir simply has holes on top of the cloth, so it just drains through.
