AT&T iPhone 8 Buy One, Gift One. Two iPhone 8 64GB for $700

I'm not sure if this deal is always available:

https://www.att.com/deals/apple-i...-bogo.html

My parents were just able to upgrade older iPhone 5 and iPhone 6, with two new iPhone 8's. They did not need to add a new line to qualify, but they were not currently in a contract and both of the phones had been unlocked a while ago.

It seems to require financing of the $700 over 24 or 30 months, and payments for both phones for three months followed by credits so that one of the phones ends up being free.

The same deal is available for the iPhone 8 with 256GB, but $700 is taken off rather than the full price of $850.

New line required. It states it clear as day on the offer page where you click whether or not you are already an AT&T Wireless customer. This is the same deal they have had for weeks.

I thought this deal must have been around for a while, since it seemed pretty good to not already be posted.

I ordered the phones through the AT&T site, and everything did qualify.

Since they were not on contract, they could have ported one number outside of AT&T then ported it back to qualify. Knowing this maybe AT&T just extends the deal to people that have been off contract for a long enough time.

I have a couple of lines not on contract too. How easy is it to port # out and then use that # as a new line to qualify for the deal? Is there a waiting period? Details would be appreciated.

Yes, the offer I got had no mention of the "requires new line". I added them to cart upgrading two out of contract phones. On Checkout, it says I qualify for the buy one get one free.

Just ordered 2 last night and I qualified. No new line required. Also confirmed w/ At&t rep and I will get bill credit. So the fine print isn't true.

I was at the final checkout screen for two iPhone 8 when I saw the same message about qualifying for BOGO. I am not on any contract for either line, but just in case, I talked to two different CS reps before doing the final checkout. They both said I absolutely need a new line to qualify. Who am I to believe? Since credits don't start for 2-3 billing cycles, I can't really wait that long to see if any of you guys actual get the credits either. :/

I don't understand why they require you to add a new line. I am a customer not in contract and I have no use for any additional lines. I want to give my two kids new Iphones for Christmas but the requirement of a new line makes it a better deal for me to take all of my business to Verizon. Since it is just a monthly bill credit AT&T should look at it as a way to retain my business for another 30 months. The new line requirement is just driving some people away.

What frustrates me the most about this "deal" is that when you (certain customers?) upgrade 2 lines in an account, without adding new line, you get a message during checkout that, to me, clearly states you qualify for BOGO. AT&T should either make it clear some current customers actually qualify for BOGO without adding a new line or take that damn message down from the checkout screen. They're totally contradictory.

I am thankful the law allows us to port our numbers when we want since it seems moving to a new provider every couple of years is beneficial. The other problem is by the time AT&T finds out you started the port and your leaving, it is too late for their retention department to do anything.

Well I ended up upgrading two phones online last night (no new line) because I figure I could just cancel it today if the BOGO thing didn't go through. I called AT&T today to check, and the CS rep verified that my account does qualify for the BOGO despite the fact that I did an upgrade on both lines instead of one line being new and I should be seeing the bill credits starting the 3rd month. We'll see how this plays out in 3 months I guess.
