This processor was this price a month ago. Now it's back. That's the lowest a quick search showed (to make sure I wasn't reposting).

Note: last time some price matched with Staples for less than $250.

You can also bundle with certain motherboards for $30 off the total (found on the product page).

Yes, current gen processors are better. But there are probably a lot of people who spent a couple pennies for a z170 or z270 motherboard with an i5 or i3 chip to upgrade later and want to get this proc at a good price before they become scarce and hard to get a good price on. That's who this deal is for.

Hope this helps!

Use the "Tell us about a lower price" at Amazon to try to get them to price match!

Actually just went in to Best Buy today and got this price matched. Remember to use chase pay to get 10% back in points. They'll also deliver with free shipping.

Again - I stated that the current crop might be better, but there are people who bought a Z170 or Z270 motherboard with an i3 or even i5 with the intent of upgrading the processor later who might be interested as the latest procs require a new board (I think).

Opinions on this vs 8600 for gaming/occasional stream?
realistically the i7700k is going to be better for most tasks and you can overclock it. most software still cannot utilize all your cores so the raw single core speed is more important for real world performance. unless you are using some photo/video editing softwares or cpu rendering. the newer gen is more energy efficient but im assuming that isnt a big factor for most.

So yes, i7700k is better for most situations although synthetic benchmarking shows that the potential capabilities of the newer gen are better... albeit marginally.
