In addition to some of the other critical comments in this thread, I would highly suggest that everyone thoroughly read through Grammarly's privacy policy before installing their plugin. You may be unpleasantly surprised.

Some notable excerpts include:

• By uploading or entering any User Content, you give Grammarly (and those it works with) a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free and fully-paid, transferable and sublicensable, perpetual, and irrevocable license to copy, store and use your User Content in connection with the provision of the Software and the Services and to improve the algorithms underlying the Software and the Services.

• The Site and the Software also collect and receive information from your computer or mobile device, including the activities you perform within your account, the type of hardware and software you are using (for example, your operating system, word processing or other productivity software and browser type) and information obtained from cookies. When you access the Software, that application will request access to certain information on your computing device.

• You shall be solely responsible for the security and proper use of all user IDs, passwords or other security devices used in connection with the Site and/or the Services, and shall take all reasonable steps to ensure that they are kept confidential and secure, are used properly and are not disclosed to or used by any other person or entity.

I use the free service and have been pretty satisfied with just that. From their website:

Twice as Many Corrections

Premium users correct twice as many mistakes as free users, on average. With 400+ checks and features, you'll make every sentence your best yet.

Get Better Results

Writing an academic essay? Drafting an important business email? We have you covered. Get customized checks for more than 30 different document types.

Write With Confidence

Our plagiarism checker compares your content against a library of over 16 billion web pages, so you'll never have to worry about unintentionally borrowing content.

Improve Your Skills

Learn about all your errors so that you can avoid them next time, and improve clarity and meaning through vocabulary enhancement suggestions.

From what I can tell it's really suited for people doing academic work or are in a business environment that requires absolute grammatical precision. That last point might actually be there to help people actually learn from their mistakes, so if you're into this whole "learning" thing, you may learn what you're doing wrong.

If you're doing a lot of writing and want more than just basic grammar corrections, the premium gives a lot of great suggestions. Things such as overused words, passive voice, and more.
I used the free one for a while, now that I have the premium and installed the browser plugin as well as the Office add-on, it helps a lot with writing and learning what you consistently do wrong.
Really slick deal if you do a lot of writing.

I've recently started using the free service. For those that have the premium account is it worth it?

The Premium upgrade has been worth it for me. The plug-ins and advanced corrections are helpful. I bought it at this price earlier this year, not sure it is worth the full annual amount of $140.

They keep on sending 50% off coupon if you have it. One thing in those emails is for future years it's full price (don't want to change accounts if I have updated dictionary)

They have edu discounts but I don't know which colleges are eligible. The only way to find out is to enter an email address and if not eligible then you get spammed with emails.

Same question here. Wonder if it works like the dropbox subscription.

Is it possible to gift this? I have a son in college who might benefit from this.

Oh no! Not here as well! I'm hating YouTube lately because of Grammarly annoying ads on almost every single video I play!

I find this service insulting to our education systems. If an adult can't put a proper sentence together, then there is seriously an issue with their education system, and such a service shouldn't help them to get more degrees or better jobs/promotions if they can't even comprehend simple grammar!!!
