The real crime here is that the memory isn't user-upgradeable. Of course this being Apple, I'm not too surprised, even on a so-called "Pro" machine.

Actually it is. Stop spreading misinformation. I mean technically it's maxed out at 128gb, but you can replace it yourself.

I do appreciate the humor of this being a 1) brand new machine and 2) not on sale and 3) fully maxed to the gills

Jokes aside this is intended for people than earn their living programming or imaging or working with video. And of that group those that want to use Apple tools. It's not a consumer machine. You can have the Apple store upgrade/change RAM without voiding warranty.

For $13,000 I could just run 26 of the HP in a parallel cluster, and have $200 leftover to buy a lcd.

But seriously some HP workstations and go for over $100,000
