Select Walmart locations have the OKJ Highland on clearance. It was $268-$168 = $100 in-store (pickup discount) at the Central NJ store (08690) for $106 after tax. YMMV.

So $268-$100= $168......= $106? Might add some detail, zip for possible price match, etc

OP meant they're priced at your local store from as low as $100 to as high as $268...

If you don't know, offsets require a lot of tending. this one much more than a very good offset.

This one has a steep learning curve also, since the design of the air intake on the firebox is far from efficient

That said, this is much heavier gauge than the thin typical charbroils (even though the same brand) and obviously not as thick as the more expensive brands

for a beginner, this will likely frustrate you even at this price

best piece of advice I can give is to make sure the wood splits aren't too big and to preheat them inside the firebox... i.e have one side of the firebox dedicated to fire and the other side for preheating. you will need to build a grate for the firebox for $20. see smokingmeatforums

I've had this model for two years and love it. Don't buy this and expect to be competing on pitmasters show out of the box. There is a wealth of information available on the intrawebs about modification. Below are the mods on mine...

1) get some high temp food grade silicon and seal the seam between the fire box and barrel. Also seal the firbox halves.
2) will need to construct a baffle in the barrel to regulate temp from the fire box otherwise the end near the fire box will be 50 degrees hotter than the exhaust side. I used two gas grill deflectors and a piece of thin plate steel to better distribute the heat at the fire box end.
3) build a burnbox for the fire box. YouTube videos are out there showing how to take a piece of steel mesh and fold into a box.
4) get high temp felt gasket for a komodo grill and build a seal around where the lid closes on both the fire box and barrel.
5) extend the exhaust on the inside of the barrel down to the grate. I use a piece of dryer vent for this. This will bring the smoke evenly across the whole barrel. Otherwise it just goes to the top and across and out.

With these mods, I spent an extra $50 or $60 and can hold a steady temp with only a 5 degree difference between ends. I can get 5 to 6 hours of burn time by filling the homemade steel grate box with lump hardwood and lump charcoal. It's been a great investment, and tons of fun, just understand what your getting into.
