most functions as both. the "L" in the title refers to "low voltage." What this means and why it's advertised as such is that its *will* work at 1.3-1.35 volts (low voltage), but is also more than happy to run at the "standard" 1.5 volts.

Almost all DDR3L will run as DDR3 (the voltage increase is no thang and most of these modules were designed for the full 1.5 volts of DDR3 non-"L").

But much standard DDR3 will *not* run as DDR3L, as many modules designed for 1.5 volts or "normal DDR" do not perform well when they're given less voltage than they were designed for.
