Lowe's Military Discount requires MyLowes starting Jan 1 2018

Having forgotten my MyLowes card this last xmas lights clearance run, the cashier let me know that the military discount policy will REQUIRE a MyLowes account/card at checkout starting Jan 1, 2018

For any active duty, retired, or veteran, Lowe's has been allowing online enrollment for their 10% off military discount for a while--see: https://www.militarytimes.com/2017/05/04/lowe-s-expands-changes-its-military-discount-program/ [militarytimes.com]

As the MT article points out, Lowe's has been phasing out the 'present your ID at checkout' option, we've just now hit the deadline to do it.

Go sign up if you're eligible--it's an easy online verification process. Guard members are eligible through the online check if you've been activated/deployed, just use your active duty date range rather than enlistment.

Whats the big deal? It takes 5 minutes to sign up for a mylowes card and the discount automatically comes off when you scan the card at the register or sign into your online account. It also stores all your purchases for easier returns and warranty proof.

I agree. As a vet, I rarely bothered asking for the 10% discount unless I was making a large purchase. It just wasn't worth the hassle. I hated holding-up the checkout line. Now its so easy that I always do it. Plus its automatic on-line and many things have free package delivery.

I wish Home Depot had a similar program.

My local Home Depot offers a 10% military discount at the register BUT it no longer applies to items on sale, only regular priced items. Mad I only shop at Lowe's now unless there's a slickdeal at HD that I can't pass up! Big Grin

I am registered with MyLowes but provide my phone number because I don't want yet another card in my wallet...

Anyone know if they'll still allow to look up by phone number?

That's on your local Home Depot. Complain to Corporate about it. I just bought a ceiling fan last week that was on huge sale and got my 10% with no problems. I think your local HD is trying to scam Veterans for a little extra profit.

Now that the Veteran's ID Card is finally here, I am interested to find out how Lowe's will react.

I have saved so much more since my military is on my lowe's card. There are items that are only available online, so I shop at Lowe's because Home Depot doesn't give the discount online.

Been using MyLowes for the discount for a long time. It's much easier and comes off automatically. Added benefit being you can track receipts online.

My Home Depot offers no discount except certain days.

MyLowes never works at my store here in TN.... The veteran discount is never taken off and they have to put it in manually. I hope it actually works someday.

The leadership at Lowe's is so out of touch! They're also forcing regular customers to register for myLowes for regular in store purchases. They won't be able to pull up receipts for you anymore in the store. You have to get it yourself at myLowes. It's their way to force people online. Lowe's leadership has always been questionable, home Depot is alway beats them when they release quartely results. With that being said home Depot is a contractor's store, that's who they focus on. That's why their stores are always dirty, lighting is terrible, and the customer service gives Comcast a run for their money. For home owners and do it yourself, Lowe's is the way to go and it's not even close. Lowe's is like Target while home Depot is the Wal-Mart
It is actually a great improvement. I makes it MUCH easier. Now I can just scan my car instead of calling someone over in the self checkout lane. Also more importantly, it lets me get 10% off online, which was never possible before.

It takes only a couple minutes to sign up. You spent more time typing out that rant, than it would have taken to sign up for a MyLowes account.

Lowe's is really going down the tubes. Between this policy and the fact that they have literally canceled my last three online orders I'm done with them. Even though they are literally a 3 minute drive from my house and Home Depot is 15 minutes, I'm sick of their crap.
Were the orders clearance orders?
