Having owned LG970, X800, and OPPO. There's multiple reasons to get OPPO. upscaling and hdr10 performance is NOT one of them. You won't be able to tell any difference unless you're nitpicking pixels side by side vs cheaper players.

1) Dolby Vision (duh)
2) FAR better srt / subtitling support for mkv playback. Foreign/Japanese subs? No problem! (LG/SONY will spit out garbage; even english font looks like crap)
3) Analog out with superior DAC if you're into music, especially when paired with headphone amps (you'd easily spend $200+ on a similar standalone dac)
4) Build Quality - Silent Disc Noise, no fan. (sony is great, but this is even more quiet)
5) Not bloated so boot is fast
6) High definition menus (LG/SONY looks like they're from the 90s)
7) Advanced customizations to the video display
8) Retains resell value

I used an Xbox One S as a 4K player then bought this player. I'm glad I did... the dedicated player is just a better experience than the One S....... plus it has better upscaling of 1080P content.

Great uhd-player with a few flaws: it hangs quite a bit, no hdr streaming on Prime, and no Dolby Digital Plus on Netflix.

My first one locked up a few times... I returned it and got another that doesn't have that problem.

People keep saying money better spent with XBox with 4K. Are they right?

I bought mine when they first came out - paid quite a bit more then...and I've had zero issues with it. It hasn't locked up on me (yet) and it's built really well. It certainly doesn't feel lightweight/cheap like some.

How does Xbox One S compare? Feel like that's the best 4k player for your buck.

First of all, the 4K blu Ray player in the Xbox one S isnt going to be on par quality wise as with a standalone player like this Sony x800. Even if you look at it from a cost perspective how good can a 4k blu Ray be for such a cheap consle. I was in the same boat during black Friday should I get the one s or a standalone player and after asking and talking to a whole bunch ppl I came to the conclusion to get a standalone. Plus the one s doesn't play all 4k movies

I guess Sony had to do this since a PS4 can't play 4k discs.
