I have one of these laptops.

This is the 15.6 version of the $500 14 inch Microsoft store deal last week.

The 256 gig HD is m.2. There is an open 2.5 sata slot as well for a 2nd hard drive. This Lenovo does not have the funky shift key. There is 1 ram slot so it is upgradable to 16gb if your purchase a new ram stick.

Screen is IPS but is a bit dull for my taste my only complaint. Overall solid laptop.

OP, how has the fan noise been? I have seen reviews noting fan noise as the biggest negative, after the dim and glossy screen.

If this had a numpad or was $50 less, I would likely buy. But, at this price I am only tempted - so far.

The fan exhausts are located on the bottom half of the computer in the very back. They run from hing to hing. If the exhausts aren't blocked or on a heat absorbent surface like a bed-sheet then you wont hear it.

You will hear it when the system starts to get hot due to obstruction. Its a low in tone and audible, but not high pitched or anything like that. The noise doesn't bother me, but the thought of the fan on that high does, so I generally try to see if I am obstructing airflow.
