THE best HOB filter and a great price. Just buying a replacement motor costs almost as much. Aquaclears are the go to filter because it's very easy to use DIY media in them and pretty much negate filter media cost. This filter would be great for a 10 gallon to 29 gallon tank.

Great video to watch to maximize this filter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipTDkQsT6HQ

These are solid filters and I keep a few as backups. I've found these heavily discounted similar to this, which make them even better.

These are usually loud the first month or so but after that you can barely hear it.

Aquaclear support is pretty good at replacing the impeller if you think that is the problem.

Yeah, the impeller can be loud at first but you can either wait it out til it's lubed with 'gunk' or you can lube it with vasoline or silicone oil. Also, the impeller shaft will eventually show wear spots after a few years and make it get louder. The shaft can be replaced.

Great deal. They are great as is, or there are all sorts of modifications out there to make it even better for certain applications. Tempted to buy even though I don't have anything set up currently.

Great filter. I used these filters for my salt water tanks. I loved how I could use my own media. A bag of carbon, chemipure and asome cheap non fire retardant poly fill from Walmart made for a cheap but effective filtration set up without having to drill my tanks for overflows

I used one as a refugium on a 12 gallon saltwater - just added chaeto, pods and a clip on light and they did great.

I've also used many of these for freshwater - they really can't be beat and this is a great price. I almost want to buy one as back up and I don't even have a tank running right now.

These are great filters, but be careful if you are near the 20-30 gallon range. I put this filter on a 27 gallon tank, and the suction was so strong that fish kept getting stuck to it, even after adjusting it to a lower setting.

I ended up downgrading to the 30 gallon version and haven't had as many issues, and works great.
