The Bluetooth feature seems pretty worthless. Bluetooth's short range simply isn't ideal for this sort of application.

Assuming you can start it with a dongle as well, it might not be a bad deal...

alternatively, BB has a discount on the 1-way Compustar kit that quotes 1,000 foot range for the same price.

I don't have any experience with that particular kit, but I have the higher-end 2 way Compustar kit and it works great for me. My kit quotes 3,000 foot range and while I wouldn't quite count on that...I have started my car from several blocks away in a fairly dense urban environment (lots of buildings/houses between me and my car) with no issues.

I have this system installed last week, Bluetooth range is about give or take 50ft with an iphone6s, works for well for me, I can start my truck from my bedroom, parking on the driveway. If I just need to grab something from the truck, I just unlock with my phone, I don't need to go grab my keys, it's just convenient. If I ever lock my keys in the car, this will save me. The key fob works up half a mile, one press to start, one press again to unlock.

Does anyone have experience using this? I bought one but am afraid of the actual range.

Looks to still be available from my end. I'm a little confused on this model, does it work via Bluetooth? If so, how far is the range? Anyone know if it'll withstand our cold season in MN? It'll be like -20 below at times lol.

Yes this can definitely withstand a Minnesota winter! It was designed for it! It comes with a remote, but you can use your phone and start it within blue tooth range also.

I bought my used mazda car with a remote starter. First week I was stupid and broke the fob in my pocket the first week. I havent used it since 2013. Do I need to replace the starter? My local Mazda wouldnt look at it.
