compared to the microsoft deal, this one is a 7th gen dual core while the microsoft one has the newest 8th generation quad core.

Looks like it's an extra $50 for 128GB Larger SSD.

Not sure there's any reason to pay this much for an average laptop with out of date specs when you can get something so much better for so much less:

Asus 2 in 1 w/ 8th gen i5 $649

Or i7 for $700

How is $699 to $799 turns into $50?

Can't compare. This is equivalent in size to XPS 15 and about 30% heavier. Smaller battery too.

Oh, well if formfactor is what you're after there are also still several other, better options for the price

My point was just that this isn't a good deal for the price; no reason to pay flagship prices for outdated hardware

Form factor and weight are the ones I am after. If you can suggest better laptop with 13 inch screen in 11 inch body, 1080p IPS with full RGB gamut, 8+ hours battery and under 3 lb for less than $700 I will buy it in no time.

I dont even need Windows on it, as I am using Acer c740 with Ubuntu right now, screen is upgraded to IPS and SSD to 128G but it has it's limitations and I am really missing the 'Delete' button. $230 including all upgrades Smilie

I got this exact computer 1 year ago to the week, I paid $750 shipped after tax and all that stuff. It's an ok computer. Coil whine, keyboard click issues, terrible wifi card. It actually leaves a lot to be desired. Dell support came through on a replacement ac adapter a few months ago when the original one went out, so that was nice. I think it'd have to be ~500 new for it to be a good deal, but probably even less than that since it's a flawed machine to begin with.

Well, I am about to find out. Microsoft has good return policy so will see. I just might have to stay with my $250 laptop for few more years until technology catches up Smilie

lol its hard to go wrong with the C7xx series, my C720 has been abused for years and is still running strong. Getting ready for bed but I'll take a look tomorrow, there are definitely some options out there.. the Asus ZenBook line is usually pretty good in the bang:buck ratio though, I'm pretty sure the higher end ZenBooks fit your criteria [amazon.com], the downside is it looks like it went up to $749 on Amazon. If that review is accurate, that battery life is insane for the benchmarks on that CPU. ETA: SD blocked my link lol, I think it must have had competing amazon referral links -- just google reviews for it though

I bought Zenbook 2 in 1 few months ago from Walmart for $500 and it is perfect machine except, being the same 13.3 screen as XPS is actually bigger because of bezel. Asus used to have Zenbook in 11 inch size which would have been perfect for me except it was not upgreadable at all, even SSD due to propitiatory format. Guess 11 inch is a tablet/chromebook segment these days.

Yeah the XPS is definitely nice, I would just rather personally have the new ridiculously fast i5-8250u than I would the XPS formfactor, but if you don't care about the speed it's definitely a good option. The Yoga on FP is also a super nice computer [bestbuy.com]

ETA: Also FP is another, better, newer XPS for $749 lol
