just pick up a free after rebate external enclosure from newegg and remove the case, end up with same thing.

We use these at work to pull data off drives that we pull from laptops. Most of the time we don't want them out of the computer for more than it takes to transfer data, and we swap them around a lot. The enclosures are a bit more cumbersome to use in those situations. Often we only use the enclosures when we are permanently relocating a drive or the computer it's in dies.

Enclosures have slightly more protection for longer term use and usually take a minute or 2 to screw in. This is much quicker and saves time if you have more than 1 drive and youre using it for temporary transfers.
