Stay away. These have no wattage at all, even with external speakers. Total poop.

I was told to stay away from any turntable that looks like a suitcase. The U-turn Orbit basic/plus, or the Audio Technica lp120 are solid entry units though.

The Orbit Plus can be had at Barnes and Noble when they have 25/30% off when it is in stock (it is not in stock now).

The lp120 can be had on sale pretty frequently.

Great retro designs on the wood and turquoise ones. That coupon really drops the price on the turquoise.

Because broadly they are made for a specific market and spend most of the money on the casing and outside. That usually means the internals, ie the parts that matter, are terrible.

As above, save your money. If you want to get a turntable, consider the lp120 from audio technica

While there's some truth to not getting all in ones, I think that the audiophile market is actually the people killing the resurgence of vinyl. The same people who love vinyl are the stuck up ones who say that it's all or nothing and turn a lot of people off from wanting/needing to spend a whole lot of money.

There's honestly nothing with getting lets say an $80 dollar AT-LP60 but yet every thread out there will tell you to buy the LP120, because it's soooooooooo much better.

I've got the Denon DP300F which can take pretty much any modern cartridge and is cheaper than the 120.

Anyway long story short, if someone wants to get into it and buy one of these then so be it, it won't be long before they upgrade anyway. It's a long road to seeking this ultimate zen of audio.

Well I didn't recommend a $5000 deck Wink

Of course others are available. As you state, buying one of these will mean an almost instant upgrade

Sorry, I wasn't prodding at you personally, just this whole audiophism thing is exhausting.

What I meant to say was that everyone will have options, but the important thing is to listen to the dang records and enjoy them, lol.

I guess the track weight is heavy and can wear the albums quickly, that in addition to the speakers being in the unit can cause skipping as the turntable is not isolated from the vibrations.

ha no worries. But that snobbery does happen a lot on here.
Looking to buy some headphones for budget of about $100? How about the Beyerdynamic T90?

Look, if you don't really care about your records then by all means get this suitcase turntable. There's nothing inherently wrong with it - it'll do what it's advertised to do. However, it will also grind the living hell out of your records. If that isn't important to you then go for it. If it is, then putting together a different system is not incredibly difficult. In fact, most people find it fun. "Anything worth doing is worth doing right."

I'm waiting for the vinyl fad to be over, so I can get a decent turntable from Goodwill for $20 or some crazy clearance price from Amazon, bestbuy ..etc. This being slickdeals, I can't be the only one who is waiting.
