I thought this jig was always 25 bucks? Is it necessary to buy these in pairs for alignment?

Kreg builds jigs that help you do craftsman stuff. This one helps you drill holes for shelving.

I bought one 2 weeks ago at HD for same price. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Kreg-...htype=text I wish I bought 2 but it is important to get the cross pin perfectly aligned to start the next row. There is an alignment pin that helps. If your doing something long buy as many as you can afford it will speed up the process.

Typically it's $35 (Lowe's for example https://m.lowes.com/pd/Kreg-Adjus...HkQAvD_BwE)

I I like this but I just get a piece of peg board and use those holes to do the same.

There is no need to buy a pair. For alignment you need to ensure that the starting position is the same for the four columns of holes to be drilled. (Two matching sets of holes need to be drilled on the other board).

If you mean vertical alignment, no- it comes with a pin that goes into one of the holes and into the jig, so you'd drill six holes, put the pin in the last hole, mount the jig on that pin, and drill five more holes.

The one you bought is for 5mm pins. This one is for the larger 1/4" pins.

Camelcamelcamel says that it averages $31. Highest is $35 and Lowest has been $20.20. So not the best price but pretty close. Shows $25 only a few times. Just an FYI.

I'm cheap! I can do that with a piece of stiff cardboard and achieve similar results, IMHO!

If you made it out of hardboard (Masonite) maybe, but this jig has metal sleeves so it doesn't get chewed up in use
