Besides other options, is there any reason this wouldn't be good for home use as well?

Ummm I don't get what you're asking. This isn't meant for a car (if that's what you're thinking?).

This converts 220VAC from a house/hotel wall outlet to 110VAC wall outlet. As a bonus, it also has a few 5VDC USB outputs to charge devices. It's ONLY meant for home use. So your question seems unclear.

I have an older version of this (I believe it's the same brand). It makes a slight hum.

That said, most/many US power adapters can accept 220 or 110. Laptop chargers, cell phone chargers, etc. If it's got a power block/brick somewhere in line, it can probably take 220. Blow dryers and curling irons are usually the trouble pieces.... but I'm a dude. Just get the socket adapter for 4 bucks and rock on.

(Heck, many hotels have a separate plug right by the bathroom mirror specifically for 110VAC blow dryers. LOL)

Would this be less efficient? Fan would make noise.

Converters can be fire hazards and I don't see any approval mentioned. This isn't such a high wattage, but still seems a use minimally and unplug item.

I am assuming the poster might have been confused because of the word "travel" in the description as opposed to dedicated home usage.

Perhaps the question is home vs. travel, since it's a travel adapter. It' looks like there's a 110 plug, so the answer could be that there's no reason why you couldn't use this in-home in the US as opposed to for travel (as QC adapter, for example)?

Btw, seeing as a voltage-converting power strip does seem like a great product idea for traveling, does anyone know of any competing products? This one is rated for 200W, but would be good to discover higher-rated options.

I spend about a month per year in Asia and haven't once needed a power converter. Laptop and cell charger all accept 220VAC. And rarely do I even need a plug adapter. Most of the outlets accept every type of plug. Example of what they commonly look like.

For those that prefer Amazon over EBay, I found the following:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01HRJI8FA/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought this for almost the same price since it is currently on flash sale. I like the return policy at Amazon.

It's not really the same kind of product though. The OP posted a device containing a voltage converter. The Amazon ones are just power strips.
