Is this not included in the box when buying a new Nintendo Switch?

Edit: NM, found the answer:
- Functionally identical to the dock included with the Nintendo Switch system
- Maintain multiple Switch docks in your home to easily move from one TV to another

I have a "Spend $50 or more, get $20 back" on Google Express offer on my Amex.

That makes the deal even better, thanks!

Good price on this if you must have the official dock. Otherwise I would say Insignia's dock for $40 is a better deal. (Check it out at Best Buy)

Does a dock already come included with the system?

Yes. This dock comes with the Switch console.

From what I've seen from reviews of other third party dock is that they don't have the ease of docking like the official one.

Plus, the Insignia one is smaller so you can transport it a lot easier. Just keep in mind when looking for dock substitutes that a "standard" USB-C to HDMI adapter will not work. (I assume because of DRM stuff)

Very true, as I have both. But as a second dock I think it hits the sweet spot for a second dock! (Personal opinion)

other 3rd party docks do such, i tried some of them and returned them. but i have the insignia dock and i like it better than the original one. if you look at BB reviews, it pretty much got a 5 star rating from actual owners.

Yes, the other docks are good value.

I think it also depends on how you'll be using the dock. If you plan on moving between 2 TV often, the official dock maybe better.

If you plan on take the dock on the road, the smaller third party docks are probably better.

Thanks for the reminder! Getting the official one for $45 is much better!

It's actually not DRM but the standard they used for the experience they wanted. It's basically mandatory for the output dock to have power supply, and to have it connected prior to docking. I'm sure they did it to make the switch experience consistent, but it does make buying alternative docks a lot more specific, but there are ones out there that work. They just have to have that power connection, and the standard "MyDP" I think, as well, so are pretty much all made specifically for the switch.

Pretty sure the patent mentioned allowing the regular usb-c to HDMI config as well, but who knows if they'll ever update it.
