Sennheiser HD600 for $187 plus tax @ Amazon after 18% Harmony discount and 20% back from Amazon Prime Rewards VISA YMMV

I noticed that on the amazon page for the HD600 [amazon.com], there was a note that says save up to 18% when you speak with an Amazon Harmony associate. Don't know what Harmony is but I called and they gave me a coupon that took 18% off my order. With the Prime Rewards promo that will give back 20%, my total was $187 plus tax.

I have way too many headphones now (HD6XX, Fidelio X2, Beyer 880 600 ohm, Beyer 990 , Senn HD 598, Bose QC 25 and QC 35, Grado 60, plus a bunch of iems). I used Schiit Vali/Modi Uber stack and O2/ODAC as my amp/Dac. I am also in the process of building my Bottlehead Crack which made me get the HD600. I really wanted to get the HDVA600 but I have spent too much this holiday so maybe next year. Peace

Use this link to call Harmony Associate if you don't see the offer on the page:

Don't see mention of harmony (what's the number listed?). Do see 20% with prime card which is fantastic.

BTW, I recommend Focal Elear. was end game for me, smokes just about everything.

$187 + tax= approx $200. Wouldn't the HD 6XX for $200 be much better a deal considering is a higher end equivalent to HD650 and has a modern design.

For anyone that already owns a pair of these, can you drive them directly from your mobile device or is a headphone amp mandatory? I move around a bunch while listening to headphones, so the thought of lugging around an amp just to drive these while listening through my phone is a non-starter. I guess I'm not much of an audiophile, but I currently rock a pair of Sony XBA-H3 and XBA-H5 earbuds so I like good audio quality. Never owned pair of Beats if that gets me a little respect. I personally would not buy these if you don't plan on using an amp. With some phones you may get some decent sound but you will not be maximizing the value of these headphones. If only using these with a mobile device you can spend less money on headphones and get better sound.

This uses 300 ohms, you need an amp to get a detailed sound out of it and especially if you are using a smaller device like iphone, ipod or cellphones. Otherwise without an amp is like just wasting your money. If you don't want to use an amp you will be better off with a headphone that has a lower ohm ratings. The HD 598 is only 50 ohm, will be a good choice.

A schitt magni 3 amp for $99 should suffice

Thanks guys, as I figured amplification is the way to go with these cans.

I'm sure there are several reasonably priced amps to drive these headphones. But I value my portability. Sweet deal otherwise; maybe I'll hunt around Amazon for some non-high impedance options just to see what else is available.

With a $100 budget, I'd go with the FULLA DAC/AMP.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1 was about $280 for me after 18% Harmony, 15% Prime offer, 10% back on the prime visa, and 6% back through TCB.

Wink
