Amazon has the Lego Technic Power Functions Motor Set 8293 for $23.99. One of the lowest prices per CCC.

NOTE: In-stock on Dec. 23rd, but you can order now and it ships when available. Probably not useful as last minute Xmas shopping.

It's been that price for at least a couple weeks. I've had it saved in my cart and just haven't pulled the trigger on it. I spend to much on LEGO. lol

It's been this price often at Amazon (but usually higher at other places.) 3 Days before Christmas it's not surprising it would go OOS at the good price. Just wait and it will come back.

After you buy 1 or 2 of these, you're better-off just buying the individual pieces you need (usually only Lego.com has the motors and boxes in-stock at regular price). I often toss in a motor or battery box with a Lego.com order so I can get up above a limit for "free ship" or "free bonus item," usually $50 or $75.

This is the larger AA-size battery box. A lot of builds now use the AAA smaller box, and trains need the special train-motor, and many things need the new remote-controls and IR receiver, so this old "power functions" kit which has been around a while is seeing less use these days. (still worth having one or two kits on-hand if you can get at a good price).
You generally won't find these at any local stores except sometimes the Lego store.
Also the Lego store told me they often have stock in the back of individual pieces like motors and remotes -- just ask.
