If you buy a $150 best buy gift card first through the deal below, you can get an extra $15 best buy gift certificate. I bought a $300 gift card and bought 2 of these systems.

In case this would influence anyone's purchase, this company is apparently TERRIBLE to their employees. They fired workers who complained about rat infestation in their call center a few months ago. Then, it was revealed earlier this week that in their warehouse, they allowed employees to put up Nazi-affiliated alt-right signs. When aanother employee complained to management, they didn't even make them take the signs down. This has been all over Boston news this week...

In general, if you're looking for a wireless security system with no monthly fees, SimpliSafe has been known to be the best, especially in this price range. Fortress Security is another viable option, although no app control on basic package with both them. Lastly, if you're on a really tight budget like me and you want app control, you may want to consider this option for $52 after promo code 8V8XXAZR:

For what it's worth, this site recommends my second and third options:

Do you have to buy a separate siren if you want that functionality, or is it built in?

A default siren is already built into the base station. If you want a louder/extra siren which can also be put outside they can be bought separately: https://simplisafe.com/105-decibel-alarm-siren

Good deal this is about low cost as I've seen. Been debating between Simplisafe or something more robust like Abode or Nest which offer more home automation options.

My simplisafe system has been pretty reliable, they had to send me a verizon sim card for it since the tmobile one was low....but yeah, no home automation tho

Home security noob here - is there a monthly monitoring fee for this system or do you monitor it yourself?

Edit - did 2 seconds of research and saw the $14.99 fee on the Amazon listing. I'm assuming there's no option for self monitoring then?

Can someone elaborate on recurring costs?
I am reading reviews on BB website now and one particular phrase caught my attention:
"Only negative is it has an app to work with, but cant use app if you do not purchase their monitoring package"
I thought the app is required to program this system?

Also, what kind of cellular connectivity it uses? Do you have to or can you maintain a separate cellphone line (e.g. from Tello or any other low-cost operator) or does it already come with a contract?
Thanks!

Did you check the leader package on their website?

Been using it for 3 years. If you want to use the app to control everything, it's $25 per month. Otherwise if you are ok with just the base service which will have 24/7 live monitoring it's $15.

You should know that if you want to use the app to arm/disarm it, you need to buy the monitoring subscription at $25 a month. You do not need a separate cell line, it comes with a T-mobile Sim card. In case of no signal, they will replace it with a Verizon one.
