You log into your amex account and look at the special offers available for your card. If you have it, add it, make the purchase using that card, and in the timeframe listed on the offer you will get a credit on your Amex card.

Yes. They cut corners on this version and sound are not the same as first gen.
I got 1st gen for $50+ from Target and it's great!

so a 1st gen refurb, if in new condition, is a better deal at $69? I bought 2, but have not used them yet.

They've since issued a update to the software and the sound has improved

From the listing:
All-new Echo (2nd Generation) with improved sound, powered by Dolby.

I like how they flaunt the "improved" sound. Only to have reviewers prove them wrong.

Is it worth getting now after the firmware updates for sound quality?

I bought some of these and can confirm that the sound quality improved with the firmware update (better bass). I still returned them though, because every time I would stop streaming a song from Spotify, it would stop and then play a few more beats of the song before stopping again.

I tried on multiple networks and multiple Echo speakers and got the same result. My first gen Echos didn't do this. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. I would have loved to keep them, but since I use the Echo to stream Spotify quite a bit, this was a big annoyance.

Amazon music storage is being retired. Free subscribers can no longer upload anything. Google Homes is a better choice if you want to stream your own music in the cloud.
