Budget Laptop for Grandparent

15 14 December 22, 2017 at 07:46 AM
I'm always seeing deals on laptops, but the reviews aren't always the best. I don't know what to look for when it comes to graphics and processors. So many models with varying spec differences. I know it should probably have an SSD or be upgradable. Not a Chromebook. Windows 10 with probably 100 gigs of storage. Also wanna stay away from Lenovo. She wouldn't do much on it, besides Microsoft games, Facebook, and email. She only uses it at her desk, so it doesn't have to be all that light. Price range is $350 to 400. Thanks.

That one kept coming up when I searched. Idk if I could wait for it to drop again. Hers is still on Vista and not working. Looks like the RAM is easy to upgrade. Thanks for the personal recommendation!

So my mom thinks I should shoot for $250-300. She said she'll only use it for Facebook, email, and the games that come with Windows. But the ones with 64 GB storage wouldn't be enough space, right? Once ya install antivirus and save less than 1GB of files. Wish the reviews on the model shared above hadn't put me off when it was on sale. Hope it'll drop after Christmas again. I don't think she'd mind spending even $400, but I don't want her to spend more than she has to.

If you want to use it for only browsing and social media purpose then any core2duo will be workable but if there is a also need to do work with it then i would highly recommended to by any corei3 or corei5 with ssd hard drive. I have 3 years experience in hardware because i was working in a shop Smilie

How's this one look? Anyone have experience with the retailer? I wanted to avoid Lenovo, cause I haven't had much luck with em, but if it's a solid enough deal.

You dont like lenovo, yet are going to buy a refurb, then pass more judgment into them? They dont make $250 laptops for a reason.... that lenovo was refurbished, because someone threw it away but because its built like a (think)TANK someone took it out of the dumpster and is now reselling it to you....

firstly, I posted that link 3 months so. it's not even available anymore. secondly, that's not what refurbished means. my judgment was based on one extremely poor experience. and I've had another one with one of their smartphones. still, I was open to what *direct* experiences others had with them, specifically this model - which you didn't even offer. so why reply only to pass judgment on me and nothing more?
