Id rather risk missing an issue and pay $5 each year than risk forgetting about this one and being charged $25.

Use a reminder or calendar app and set up reminders. On my computer I use Rainlender lite. I'm sure any smart phone has the same capability.

As soon as I start a trial, get an appointment, etc. I set up a reminder. Otherwise it won't get done laugh out loud.

Have a nice holiday

You can turn off auto-renew right away. There's no need for a calendar reminder.

This is the most critical point,
and the feature that makes subscriptions work for me.

It works this for all Amazon subscriptions, I think,
including video channels.
