Anyone here can confirm Forbes article? Is "Powerd" a feature or just a way Apple avoids the bullet.

Wanted to read the story and after about 2 seconds of reading got a fake looking pop up page for Amazon gift card
Got this pop up page once before in the past, possibly from Comcast Home page or email page.

I'd rather have the processor slowed than have the phone die or battery explode.

Why do conservative politicians oppose conservation?
Have you ever stopped to think the long-term GOP immigration policy might be to make the United States of America a less desirable place to live than Mexico?

I guess I just assumed it did this normally. Laptops do, engines do etc. This isn't so surprising to most, I think it's pretty common for people to think the new version of operating systems on computers or mobile phones will slow old ones down to get you to buy new versions. While this isn't always true the perception is present. Newer OS tend to increase security, have more stuff running, fancier UI, etc. The difference here is someone took the time to test and prove that it's happening and Apple acknowledged it. Yes lawsuits have been filed and they have a decent chance at a settlement out of court. Even though it's not the slick thing to do if your phone is EOL and not getting updates it's time for a new one anyways.

Actually I think these pop ups might be something on the Slickdeals site. Was browsing SD pages just now and had the same thing pop up on 2 different threads.

I personally find it disgusting if this is on purpose. Don't get me wrong every new tech gets added features security, fancier UI, etc as mentioned above however say I have the Iphone 7 and the new Iphone 8 just got released its kind of sad that they are basically telling me if you want something fast its time to upgrade.

My GF said her phone got slower since the new update and don't get me wrong its normal that updates make things slower because it requires more demand, but for it to happen each year is not right. Every 2 years I can expect it to become a bit slower, but every year is just a way to keep milking the consumer.

And people find this surprising coming from Apple? The company that pioneered the concept on non-replaceable batteries\built in obsolescence into their products? If they allowed you to change the battery like normal, this would not be an issue in the first place.

The whole phone market is largely based on getting suckers to spend many 100s+ each 2-3 years for newer products that pretty much do 95+% of what the old ones did. They do it by design...they do it with advertising to brain washed fan boys, they do it by not upgrading the OS after a certain point and they do it by other nefarious means like this imo. Unfortunately, this strategy was also adopted by Samsung after the S5.

Apple does deserve some credit for having a longer software support life cycle than the vast majority of Android devices.
