The drives in raid is nice for security/data recovery, but makes the SSD space in this config way too small.

I had the Predator 15 and the drives were in RAID 0 so no security provided, only speed.

The EVGA deal blows this out of the water. 100 dollars cheaper, 4K, faster 1TB drive, faster CPU, 32GB of RAM, and no tax for most states.

I would wait if you want to drop over 1K on a laptop.

I agree, EVGA was a better deal but what's the use in discussing about an expired deal. This is a pretty solid deal that is active. It has 16GB RAM, GTX 1070 with 8 GB graphics, Thunderbolt, FHD display with G-synch.. all other online retailers has the same laptop for atleast $300 more. You can wait for EVGA deal if you would like.

It's raid 0... e.g. half the data is on each drive = 256GB total ssd space.

Also twice as likely to fail since if one ssd dies you lose all your data.

This is a solid deal for a 1070 laptop. If you use your Costco Anywhere you can extend the warranty on the laptop to 4 years. 3rd and 4th year warranties on gaming laptops are not exactly cheap when you buy them from an aftermarket seller.

Limited time $300 discount reduces price until end of year from $1799 to $1499. COSTCO extends warranty to 2 yrs. Costco CITI card adds another 2 years. Squaretrade accidental warranty is $99 for 3 years.

is this really worth $400 more than the model with the 1060? On the fence

I'd go for the 1060. The screen is only 1080p so the 1060 is good enough. It has Thunderbolt 3 so you can just buy another video card and external GPU enclosure of you want to upgrade in the future. You sacrifice a bit of mobility but you extend the life of the laptop. That 7700HQ will last a long while..

edit: does the one you linked come with TB3?
