Amazon has the Sennheiser HD 599 Open Back Headphone [amazon.com] for $135.69 with free shipping.

Seems to be the lowest price ever on the headphones thus far by $64, normally $199.99 since October 2017, MSRP $250.

Note: Price has gone up to $136.90

I've had 598 open and closed, 558, 600, 650, hifi man 400, akg several pairs, audio Technica several pairs. The 598 and 599 are by far the best bang for the buck for gaming and music. They are easy to drove any on board sound or phone can handle driving them. They have great sound positioning. They are a little bass light and analytical which is great for pubg, cs and other games where pin point accuracy is key. They also do not require any additional hardware to be great. I personally dislike mass drop. They are sometime sketchy and the money you save in my opinion is half from Mass sales and half from lower quality. Also mass drop offers no returns no exchanges. You can easily add an antlon mod mic or webcam mic or desktop condenser mic. I wish the black models where out. Thanks. Hope I help someone.

If you don't have a more immediate need I would really suggest taking a look at the Massdrop 58X Jubilee's @$150 instead. They are a member of the legendary 600class Sennheiser family and sound MUCH better than these. Admittedly they will take longer to ship/and be less portable due to the 6ft cable, but if you are looking for around the house cans these blow the 500series out of the water.

How does the 58X sound without a portable dac/amp? Looking for the best open ear without lugging extra equipment.

You can find the details about the Massdrop for the 58x here [massdrop.com], however they won't ship until June 29th, 2018 :/

I wouldn't waste the money if your 598's work fine... They have a similar sound profile and you will barely notice the difference. Not worth the upgrade.

I had them for about a week before I had to return them. I have a larger head (not massive, I wear a 7 1/4 size hat). They put a lot of pressure on the side of my head. Tried breaking them in various ways (put them on a volley ball to stretch them, normal wear). Didn't seem to stretch out enough for me.

Sound quality is superb. The color is strange.. Very "High End" color scheme, but its plastic so that kind of defeats the purpose...

Overall they sound great and are light weight. The price is solid. If you are in the market for a new headset these are a solid mid(ish) range headphones.

TL;DR - Not for someone with a big head or issues with pressure on their temples/ears, Excellent sound (even when not using a DAC), Unique color scheme (its not for everyone).

Yeah, I'm not waiting that long. I'm not that audio crazy anyway. A decent pair of headphones and an amp is all I need. thanks though!
