Swapping Freedompop Sprint phone for cheap - have unactivated Global SIMs

2,119 52 December 22, 2017 at 10:20 PM
I have uncultivated global SIM from FP.

If I were to swap the FP phone, it appears that I have to pay activation fee of $20. Is there a workaround - or promotions frequent?

Otherwise, I am wondering if I want to activate the spare global sim - port the number?

Any advice?

Global SIM will no longer work from 1/3/18 according to FreedomPop.

Activating a SIM/Device costs $0.99. BYOD costs $0.99. Downgrading the plan and disabling Top-Up will cost $10.00 in account credit.

Confusing! I have another tablet using Global SIM - going away - never got a notification - but remember seeing 1cents charge.

So each method cost same amount of $11?

When will they discontinue local SIM?

Those aren't multiple methods. You can only activate a FreedomPop Device (Sprint) or SIM (Global SIM or AT&T LTE SIM). Activating a Device/SIM that is currently not activated costs $0.99. BYOD is for bringing Sprint devices over to FreedomPop. The cheapest promotion costs $0.99.

When you activate, you'll be able to choose the plan during check-out. So you won't need to pay the normal $10.00 fee to downgrade the plan. I brainfarted earlier.

The Global SIM was obsolete from the time it was released (No LTE). The main purpose was for international roaming and once the LTE SIM was released last December there was little point in using it domestically. They won't cull the LTE SIM any time soon.

.
there is a sd thread states $10 to downgrade - something pops up and will ask for it to downgrade. no more?
So $1, you are done either way - sim or sprint?

When you activate a Device/SIM, you can choose the plan during check-out. There's no need to downgrade when you're already on the Free Plan, so there would be no additional charges.

freedompop.com/activate

If you purchase a pre-activated SIM that is already on a trial plan then you can only downgrade by paying the $10.00 in account credit.

Does this mean I should not buy SIMs directly from FreedomPop?

You could also cancel an account and then re-activate the SIM.

I have a Global SIM activated - now it is being discontinued, will I able to use the same sim to move to 4G LTE?

I have two other global SIMs unactivated from Best Buy. Can I activate them through 4G LTE? And no downgrading fee?

I repped you - Merry XMas

No. Global SIM's are re-branded Three UK SIM's with international roaming service through Fogg Mobile (International MVNE). They also physically do not support LTE.

The AT&T LTE SIM's are completely different. They are domestic AT&T SIM's (Jasper) which use the same server Cricket (Owned by AT&T) used until last year.

You can activate the Global SIM's, and they may still work come January. FreedomPop posted an update, and they said that only those accounts that explicitly received an e-mail will have service discontinued. We shall see for certain shortly. Appreciate the rep! hug
