If I had $15K, I wouldn't let it sit in a no-interest checking account.

By the way, spelling counts.

$300 is considered to be interest. 300 / 15000 x 2 = .04 or 4%

Is it the cool thing now to go get a severe head injury then immediately come to SD to start a new thread?

This is conflating the two deals btw. The checking had no dollar amount needed. You get $300 if you open an account and have your direct deposit put there.

The savings deal was $200 if you open a savings account and keep $15,000 in it for 90 days which roughly works out to be 5.25% annual interest if people want to call it that.

Here is the bonus breakdown: "To receive the $300 checking bonus: 1) Open a new Chase Total Checking account, which is subject to approval; 2) Deposit $25 or more at account opening; AND 3) Have your direct deposit made to this account within 60 days of account opening. Your direct deposit needs to be an electronic deposit of your paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your employer or the government. After you have completed all the above checking requirements, we'll deposit the bonus in your new account within 10 business days. To receive the $200 savings bonus: 1) Open a new Chase SavingsSM account, which is subject to approval 2) Deposit a total of $15,000 or more in new money into the new savings account within 10 business days of account opening; AND 3) Maintain at least a $15,000 balance for 90 days from the date of deposit. "

For monthly fees the $12 monthly fee on the checking account is waived if you have a direct deposit of over $500 every month, or you have keep a $1,500 balance in the account, or you have a total of $5,000 in all your chase accounts. For the savings, there is a $5 monthly fee if you don't keep at least $300 in the account, there are various ways to avoid this if $300 is too much.
