Refurb Luma Whole Home Mesh Wifi [woot.com] for $99.99 + $5 for shipping from Woot.

Review from Tom's Guide [tomsguide.com]

I'm sure some want the added features of others, but for $105 this seems to be a bargain and even cheaper than deals on the Samsung Connect AC2600 3pk. Seems similar minus the smartthings hub being built in. Was tempted to upgrade my mom and sister since they both have issues and use extenders.

Works with Alexa as well.

Provide a strong Wi-Fi signal in every room and forget about buffering and dead zones with this Luma surround Wi-Fi system. The devices adapt to your home and automatically fine-tune their signal in real time to always offer peak performance and speed. A mobile app lets you set parental controls and pause access to the Internet during family time, and sharing your Wi-Fi with visitors is simple, too-- no more remembering complex passwords, one tap and they're good to go with Luma's surround Wi-Fi system.

Say Goodbye to Wi-Fi Dead Zones
Luma is the worldʼs fastest and most reliable home Wi-Fi system that only takes minutes to set up. Just three little Lumas will work together to blanket your home with stable, super-fast WiFi in every room.

Enable the Skill
Download the Amazon Alexa app to enable the Luma Skill. It's quick and easy. Pause and Unpause Your Network's Wi-Fi using voice commands.

More Things to Try

"Alexa, tell Luma Wi-Fi to prioritize my device."
"Alexa, tell Luma Wi-Fi to resume my WiFi."

"Alexa, tell Luma Wi-Fi to pause Burke's iPad."

Edited. Missed that.

I paid $130 for a "new other" 3 pack of the Samsung Connect AC2600 Home. So this is even cheaper. I'm repurposing two of them for my sister (need one for the hub) and will probably buy this for my mom.

I grabbed one of these from Amazon at $145 a few weeks ago and I am very happy with the strength of internet and coverage of my 2 story 3800 sqft home. I did need a fourth to get coverage to my outside Nestcam. Only problem is that you can not hide the SSID. After contacting Luma and getting confirmation that you can't hide it, I asked if it will be added later. I'm still waiting for their response. Even though I can't hide the SSID yet I love that I can confirm or deny anyone who accesses my network via a notification thst pops up on my phone.

Why would you want to hide the SSID? Except making it slightly inconvenient for you to connect your own devices (you have to type in the SSID manually), it does absolutely nothing to deter someone trying to break in. The SSID is easily found with a multitude of free apps.

Not to mention hidden SSID's are a bigger drain on the battery of mobile devices.

Amazon reviews are not great. Sort by "recent reviews" to see that many of the negative reviews are very recent. Was very tempted to bite on this, but I think I'll wait for a deal on another system.

And now we know why there are so many 'refurbs'?

To be honest, unless the power adapter is dead, nobody is opening up and repairing/refurbishing these low cost products.

So you're getting a return (clean), a unit with a replaced power adapter (clean) or a problem unit that tested out okay on the tech's bench (not clean).
