So between the PS4 and your TV is the VR box which acts as a go between from the PS4 to the TV. This version will not send an HDR signal to your TV, so if you are playing on a Pro with 4k HDR graphics you won't get the HDR signal unless you unhook the PSVR equipment each time. This doesn't affect gameplay in VR whatsoever since there's no headset with HDR but would affect someone with a PS4 Pro and a 4K HDR equipped TV when playing conventionally.

Some users report unhooking the PSVR each time which honestly sounds like a really inconvenient compromise. I'd probably pay the extra $100 to avoid that if I had that dilemma.

Pretty fantastic deal if you don't require the HDR passthrough. I'm still on a launch PS4 so don't miss that feature one bit.

Would you mind explaining the HDR pass thru thing? New to this but quite intrigued.

Newb here. Getting a PS4 1tb Slim for x mas. Why would I need this as an addition to what I will have? Stupid question, I wear glasses to see, obviously I cannot wear them and this at the same time and can't wear contacts. Is this worth it?

i havent tried my VR headset yet....but from what I heard from impressions is that compared to VIVE/OCULUS./etc the PSVR is the "most comfortable" to wear on your head, even if you wear glasses...

you can google around for people's opinion of the VR headset...or if you have a best buy near you that has a PSVR demo station, you can try it out for yourself

Great explanation, additionally some internet sites show how you can implement a 20-30 dollar HDMI switch capable of passing through HDR, as an inexpensive alternative to paying the extra $100 for the version 2 headset. You can find them easily by searching on Google PlayStation VR HDR HDMI Switch.

Can you not just use an HDMI switch to bypass the box? Looks like it would work from the hookup diagram...
