Good price on this. I need a turntable, but I would have to remove the pre-amp as I do not need it.

Been back and forth between this, the pro-ject debut carbon (I worry about the motor hum despite some 'fixes' such as removing the transport screws on the motor mount as well as replacing the stock RCA cables with higher quality ones), the Music Hall 2.3, the Rega Planar 1, and the U-turn Orbit Plus. So many new turntable options. Ideally I want something that is upgradable should I want to pursue it, and something that puts out a clean sound with no hum.

Pre amp can be switched off, does that help?

I held out for the 1240 which was on sale at Fry's a few weeks ago. You need to buy a needle and cartridge so price not equal, but it's excellent. The hum on the 120 was giving me concern also.

From everything I read is that even turning the preamp off on the 120 it still has an effect on the signal. There are numerous guides and threads on the matter. That is why so many people physically remove the preamp on that model.

How do you like the 1240? That seems like a good option for a NEW direct drive turntable.

I would rather spend more money on something solid than skimp and end up regretting.
